Despite being one of the last people cast in the upcoming sequel to The Hunger Games, Sam Claflin was one of the first people to start shooting his Catching Fire scenes.
The 26-year-old Brit won the highly coveted role of Finnick Odair, the smooth talking womanizer from District 4 who enjoys the spoils of a legacy that’s lasted after winning his Hunger Games at age 14. In Catching Fire, Odair, now 24, is selected to compete again, alongside Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence).
Claflin beat out the likes of Armie Hammer, Taylor Kitsch, and Garrett Hedlund for the role, rounding out the Catching Fire’s fresh faces which include newbies Philip Seymour Hoffman, Jena Malone, Tony Shalhoub, Amanda Plummer, Jeffery Wright, and Lynn Cohen.
In the first photos from the set, there’s not much to deduce, but you will get a chance to see if the Finnick you created in your head looks anything like the Finnick who will appear on the big screen.

Sam Claflin is in Atlanta for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, which begins filming next week. But it seems the actor, who snagged the coveted role of Finnick Odair in The Hunger Games sequel, had to drop out of another project to make it happen.
Deadline reports that Claflin is no longer starring in the movie Belle. Instead, Sam Reid has taken over for the role of John Daviner — the love interest of a mixed-race girl raised as an aristocrat in the 18th century. The film is based on a true story.
Belle will start filming later this month — a clear overlap with filming on Catching Fire, which is expected to begin on Monday or Tuesday in Atlanta. No word yet on if Claflin will still be able to film his role in Overdrive.

Sam Claflin will soon be joining his new co-stars Josh Hutcherson and Jennifer Lawrence in Atlanta to begin work on The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.
Monday morning, Claflin’s parents both Tweeted him wishes for a safe journey, and another relative specifically mentioned a “safe flight to Atlanta.” Claflin later Tweeted:
the beginning of a new phase of my life. A good phase. A phase that I’m thoroughly excited about.#smilesallround
It’s not certain Claflin will begin work right away on Catching Fire, but many fans have theorized that’s the case. Claflin’s new co-star Hutcherson was spotted there over the weekend, and Lawrence hopped a flight there last week.
Filming on The Hunger Games: Catching Fire begins next month in Atlanta, but the cast and crew are expected to be hard at work on preparations and pre-production already.
Lionsgate announced last week that Claflin would be playing Finnick Odair in Catching Fire, finally confirming a long-time rumor. Claflin has excitedly responded to the news by Tweeting to fans.
The Hunger Games: Catching Fire is set to be released in theaters November 22, 2013.
Exiting news! Sam’s “Snow White and the Huntsman” will be available on DVD and Blu-ray September 11th. I’ll pick up a copy as soon as it’s released, so expect blu-ray quality screencaptures from the film here at Sam Claflin Web shortly after!
Coming to DVD and Blu-ray September 11th is Kristen Stewart‘s “Snow White and the Huntsman”. The release of this film comes with controversy surrounding the relationship between Kristen and the director, as well as rumors she won’t be returning for a sequel as previously reported. After the rumor she was not invited back for the film hit the internet, Universal made a statement saying no decisions have been made and that the actress hasn’t been dropped from anything. Interesting to say the least!
Movie description: In the epic action-adventure Snow White & the Huntsman, Kristen Stewart (Twilight) plays the only person in the land fairer than the evil queen (Oscarr winner Charlize Theron) who is out to destroy her. But what the wicked ruler never imagined is that the young woman threatening her reign has been training in the art of war with a huntsman (Chris Hemsworth, Thor) who was dispatched to kill her. Sam Claflin (Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides) joins the cast as the prince long enchanted by Snow White’s beauty and power. The breathtaking new vision of the legendary tale is from Joe Roth, the producer of Alice in Wonderland, producer Sam Mercer (The Sixth Sense) and acclaimed commercial director and state-of-the-art visualist Rupert Sanders.

SAM CLAFLIN CAST AS FINNICK IN LIONSGATE’S THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE
Santa Monica, CA, August 22, 2012- Lionsgate® and the filmmakers of THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE are pleased to announce that Sam Claflin has been cast in the role of Finnick in the much anticipated film adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ worldwide smash hit novel Catching Fire. Charasmatic and clever, Finnick was a District 4 Hunger Games victor when he was fourteen.
After breaking out in his role as the romantic lead in last year’s PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: ON STRANGER TIDES, Claflin starred in the box office smash SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN playing Prince William alongside Kristen Stewart, Charlize Theron and Chris Hemsworth. He recently finished filming THE QUIET ONES opposite Jarred Harris, and MARY & MARTHA, in which he co-stars with Hilary Swank.
THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE begins as Katniss Everdeen has returned home safe after winning the 74th Annual Hunger Games along with fellow tribute Peeta Mellark. Winning means that they must turn around and leave their family and close friends, embarking on a “Victor’s Tour” of the districts. Along the way Katniss senses that a rebellion is simmering, but the Capitol is still very much in control as President Snow prepares the 75th Annual Hunger Games (The Quarter Quell) – a competition that could change Panem forever.
THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE will be directed by Francis Lawrence, and produced by Nina Jacobson’s Color Force in tandem with producer Jon Kilik. The novel on which the film is based is the second in a trilogy that has sold more than 50 million books in print and digital in the U.S. alone.
Lionsgate will release THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE on November 22, 2013.
